Dental clinic open 7 days: what schedule for the team?
A clinic open 7 days does not mean you work 7 days. Here is how the schedule is really built and what to ask before accepting.

In a clinic open 7 days, do I have to work every weekend?
No. The clinic spreads weekend shifts across several teams; a full-time employee generally works one weekend out of two, three or four, with weekdays off in exchange. Ask about the exact rotation and whether it is written into the job offer.
How many hours a week does a full-time employee work in a 7-day clinic?
Usually 32 to 40 hours, spread over four or five days, sometimes in 8- to 10-hour days. The legal standard week is 40 hours; beyond that, hours are paid at a 50% premium. A well-organized clinic posts the schedule at least a week ahead and keeps it stable for several months.
What are typical shifts in a clinic open 7 days a week?
At Go Dentiste, the Vaudreuil-Dorion clinic is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the Valleyfield clinic Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday to Sunday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Typical shifts are 8–4 or 9–5 on weekdays (11–7 on Tuesday), and daytime shifts on weekends. Each person chooses their slots according to availability, within the clinic’s needs.
Are evening shifts an advantage or a drawback?
It depends on your life: parents with shared custody, students or people avoiding traffic love them; others prefer finishing at 4 p.m. What matters is being able to choose a stable schedule rather than endure shifts that change every week. A 7-day clinic offers precisely more combinations.
Can I have a fixed schedule in a 7-day clinic?
Often, yes. Because there are more slots to cover, 7-day clinics can offer fixed schedules (for example Tuesday to Saturday, or Monday to Thursday evenings) that suit each person. Ask whether your schedule will be fixed, cyclical or variable, and how often it can change.
How are same-day emergencies handled in the schedule?
Clinics that accept dental emergencies reserve slots every day; they do not extend your day. Check that emergency slots are planned and that overtime remains the exception, announced in advance, as labour standards require.
Is weekly rest guaranteed?
Yes: the law provides for at least 32 consecutive hours of rest per week, and you may refuse to work more than 50 hours a week or more than two hours beyond your usual daily hours. A serious 7-day clinic builds its schedules around these rules.
Does a 7-day clinic offer more guaranteed hours?
Generally, yes: with 13 hours of opening on weekdays and two weekend days, it needs stable teams and can guarantee 30 to 40 hours to those who want them. It also allows completing a part-time schedule with evenings or weekends only.
How does vacation work in a clinic open 7 days?
As elsewhere: at least two continuous weeks after one year of service, three after three years. The advantage of a larger team is that a vacation departure is easier to cover. Ask how high-demand periods (summer, holidays) are allocated: seniority, rotation or first come.
Which questions should you ask about the schedule before accepting?
Weekend rotation, evening shifts per week, guaranteed hours, how far ahead the schedule is posted, the possibility of swapping shifts with colleagues, how replacements are handled, any premiums and the vacation policy. Get the answers in writing in the offer. Interested? See jobs at Go Dentiste.
