Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions our Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion patients ask us most often. For a question about a specific treatment, see the page for that treatment.

Appointments and clinics
What are your opening hours?
In Vaudreuil-Dorion, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; in Valleyfield, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Do you accept new patients?
Yes, at any time, for a complete exam or an emergency. Book online or call 514-533-3368.
Can I go to either clinic?
Yes. Your file is accessible in Valleyfield and in Vaudreuil-Dorion, and the dentists share both schedules.
Do you offer service in English?
Yes. Both clinics serve patients in English and French.
How often should I come in?
Every six months for most patients, every three or four months in case of gum disease, every twelve months only if your risk is very low.
Emergencies
What should I do for a severe toothache?
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever at the recommended dose, avoid hot, cold and sweet foods, and call as soon as we open: you will be seen the same day.
A tooth came out after a blow: what should I do?
Hold it by the crown, rinse it without scrubbing, put it back in the socket or place it in milk, and come within the hour. A baby tooth is not re-implanted but should still be examined.
Should I go to the hospital?
Only if swelling is spreading toward the eye or the neck, if you have difficulty swallowing or breathing, a major facial injury or uncontrollable bleeding. Otherwise, the dental clinic is the right place.
Costs, insurance and public plans
How much does an exam cost?
The cost depends on the type of exam (complete, recall, emergency) and the X-rays needed. An estimate is given before any treatment, and our fees follow the guide of the Association des chirurgiens dentistes du Québec.
What does the RAMQ cover?
For children under 10: exams, X-rays, fillings, extractions, root canals and certain other treatments. Cleaning, fluoride and sealants are not covered. Some social assistance recipients also have coverage.
What is the Canadian Dental Care Plan?
A federal program that covers part of the dental care of Canadian residents without private insurance whose family income is below the set threshold. Go Dentiste accepts CDCP patients.
Do you send claims to my insurance?
Yes, electronically, from the clinic. You pay only the portion that is not covered. We can also send a pre-determination before a major treatment.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, for larger treatments (implants, orthodontics, dentures, crowns). The terms are presented with the estimate.
Children
At what age is the first visit?
Around age one, or within six months of the first tooth.
Can I stay with my child in the room?
Yes, parents are welcome.
When should we consult for orthodontics?
A first assessment around age 7 detects growth problems early.
Treatments
Does a root canal hurt?
No, it is done under local anesthesia and relieves the pain caused by the infection. A few days of sensitivity afterwards are normal.
Implant or bridge to replace a tooth?
The implant preserves the neighbouring teeth and the bone; the bridge is faster and requires no surgery. The choice depends on the available bone, the condition of the neighbouring teeth and your budget.
Does whitening damage the teeth?
Not when it is supervised by a dentist with professional products and fitted trays.
Can a dentist perform Botox injections?
Yes, within the rules of the Ordre des dentistes du Québec. Dr. Lilian Carvalho performs cosmetic injections at both of our clinics.
