Commuting, transport and parking for dental clinic work

The daily commute is the hidden cost of any job. Here is how to calculate yours to each clinic and why a clinic close to home is often worth more than a dollar an hour.

What is the commuting time to the Valleyfield clinic?

About 10 minutes from Valleyfield neighbourhoods, 15 minutes from Beauharnois, 20 minutes from Saint-Zotique and Les Coteaux, 25 minutes from Vaudreuil-Dorion via Highway 30, 35 minutes from Châteauguay and 45 minutes from the West Island off-peak. Free parking on site.

And to Vaudreuil-Dorion?

About 10 minutes from Pincourt, L’Île-Perrot and Saint-Lazare, 15 minutes from Hudson, Les Cèdres and Saint-Zotique, 25 minutes from Valleyfield, 20 to 40 minutes from the West Island depending on rush hour. Boulevard Harwood is near Highways 20 and 40 and the Vaudreuil exo station.

And to Saint-Zotique in 2027?

About 5 to 10 minutes from Coteau-du-Lac, Les Coteaux and Rivière-Beaudette, 15 minutes from Vaudreuil-Dorion and Les Cèdres, 20 minutes from Valleyfield, via Highway 20 and Route 338. Free parking on site.

Is public transit an option?

Yes to Vaudreuil-Dorion: the exo train (Vaudreuil–Hudson line) and regional buses serve the city; the station is minutes from the clinic. To Valleyfield, the local network and regional lines exist, but driving remains the norm. Saint-Zotique is mostly reached by car.

How much does the commute really cost?

Count fuel, wear and insurance: a 30 km round trip per day is about 7,000 km a year, several thousand dollars. Add time: 30 more minutes each way is 240 hours a year. A job 15 minutes from home is often worth $2 to $4 an hour more than a job 45 minutes away.

Does parking really make a difference?

Yes: in Montreal, monthly parking costs $100 to $250, that is $1,200 to $3,000 a year; the Go Dentiste clinics in Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion offer free parking to the team as well as patients.

Is carpooling between colleagues common?

In a 7-day clinic with fixed shifts, yes: colleagues from the same area often organize it. A banner with several clinics also makes it easier to assign you to the clinic closest to home, which remains the best solution.

How do you handle travel between two clinics?

Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion are 25 minutes apart via Highway 30; Saint-Zotique sits between the two. Dentists and employees who alternate generally work full days in one clinic, never two clinics on the same day, except in emergencies.

What about winter?

Plan for winter tires (mandatory in Quebec from December 1 to March 15), a time margin on storm days and a clear clinic policy on delays and exceptional closures. A clinic that communicates early on storm mornings respects its team.

How do you factor the commute into choosing a job?

Do the real trip at the real time before accepting, both ways, on a weekday. Then compare total compensation net of transport (see Comparing two offers). Go Dentiste assigns you to the clinic closest to home whenever possible. See positions.
