According to labour market information (2023-2025 average), dental assistants earn from about $21 to $30 an hour, with a median of $25, roughly $40,000 to $55,000 a year full-time. What is a dental assistant’s salary without experience?
Someone without a DEP or experience usually starts between the minimum wage ($16.60 an hour since May 1, 2026) and $21, while being trained chairside and in sterilization. Some clinics, including Go Dentiste, train motivated people on site; pay is then reviewed as autonomy grows.
Does the DEP in dental assisting raise the salary?

Taking digital and panoramic X-rays, four-handed assisting in endodontics and implantology, digital impressions, managing orders, sterilization to standard and bilingualism. The more you free up the dentist and the hygienist, the more you are worth to the clinic.
Are there annual raises for dental assistants?
No law requires them, but most clinics review pay once a year, often early in the year or on the hiring anniversary. Ask at the interview: « When and how will my pay be reviewed? » A vague answer is a signal; a date and clear criteria are a good sign.
Is assistant pay better in a large clinic?
Not automatically. Large clinics and banners often offer more benefits (insurance, training, varied schedules, progression), while a small clinic may offer a slightly higher rate without benefits. Compare total compensation and growth opportunities, not just the hourly rate.
How do you ask for a raise as a dental assistant?
