Multidisciplinary team: specialists, denturist and general dentists

When specialists come to the clinic rather than the other way around, everyone wins: patients, dentists and the team. Here is how a multidisciplinary clinic works.

What is a multidisciplinary dental clinic?

A clinic where general dentists work with specialists (endodontics, periodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics) and other professionals (denturist, hygienists, assistants) under one roof, with a shared record. The patient no longer has to run from one office to another.

Which professionals are at Go Dentiste?

Seven general dentists, a denturist, dental hygienists, assistants and an administrative team, with specialists joining the team in Vaudreuil-Dorion. Meet the team to learn about each person and their role.

What does a denturist’s presence change for the team?

Denture patients are handled on site, implant dentures are planned with the dentist, and the front desk coordinates fewer external referrals. For assistants, it is a new skill (impressions, try-ins, repairs). See the collaboration offered to denturists.

And an endodontist’s or periodontist’s?

Days of specialized treatments (complex root canals, periodontal surgery, grafts), specific trays and protocols, and a rare learning opportunity for assistants and hygienists. Cases stay within the clinic, which simplifies follow-up.

How is the agenda organized with specialists?

Generally in dedicated days or half-days (the specialist comes one or two days a week), with a reserved room, a trained assistant and a front desk that groups referred patients. Coordination is real work, valued and sometimes entrusted to a coordinator.

Do hygienists work with the specialists?

Yes, especially with the periodontist: follow-up of treated patients, periodontal maintenance, education. A hygienist trained in advanced periodontics becomes the specialist’s natural partner, which enriches her work and her value.

Is a multidisciplinary clinic more demanding?

More varied and more structured: each discipline has its protocols, and the team must switch between them. It is stimulating for those who like to learn; it is also why continuing education is more present there than elsewhere.

What do patients gain?

One record, one front desk, shorter delays and continuity of care. For the team, it means more satisfied patients and fewer coordination calls. It is one of the pillars of the Go Dentiste formula.

How does a general dentist benefit from specialists on site?

They refer without losing the patient, they learn from the specialists and they can focus on what they prefer. For a young dentist, it is an exceptional training environment; for a partner dentist, it is a value factor for the clinic.

How do you assess a clinic’s multidisciplinarity?

Ask which specialists come, how often, whether there is a denturist and hygienists trained in periodontics, and how referrals are coordinated. A clinic’s list of dental services says a lot about its scope.
