06FAQ
Frequently asked questions: poking braces
Where can I get orthodontic wax?
Your orthodontist usually gives you some at the start of treatment; you can also find it at the pharmacy.
Is a loose bracket urgent?
Rarely. If it doesn’t hurt, let your orthodontist know. If it spins on the wire and hurts your cheek, call quickly.
Can I cut the wire myself?
Better not: a wire cut in the wrong place can be swallowed or move your teeth. Use wax and call a professional.
Can braces cause sores in the mouth?
Yes, rubbing can irritate the cheeks, especially at the beginning. Wax and salt-water rinses help; a sore that does not heal within two weeks should be examined.
