Dental bridges in Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion

A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth with an artificial tooth (pontic) attached to crowns placed on the neighbouring teeth or on implants. It is fixed, cemented permanently, and restores chewing and appearance without surgery.

Dental bridges: what you need to know

A missing tooth is not only a cosmetic issue: the neighbouring teeth tilt into the space, the opposing tooth grows out, food gets trapped and chewing shifts to one side. A bridge fills the gap with a fixed restoration that looks and works like natural teeth, usually in two to three visits.

At Go Dentiste, bridges are made in zirconia or ceramic on a strong framework, at both our Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion clinics. Our dentists compare the bridge with the implant option for your situation, including the condition of the supporting teeth, the bone and the cost over time.

When is a dental bridge indicated?

  • One to three missing teeth in a row, with healthy teeth on each side
  • Neighbouring teeth that already need crowns because of large fillings
  • When surgery for an implant is not possible or not wanted
  • Insufficient bone for an implant without a large graft
  • To replace a removable partial denture with a fixed solution

How the treatment works, step by step

1. Assessment

The dentist checks the supporting teeth, their roots and the bone on the X-ray, and discusses bridge versus implant.

2. Preparing the abutment teeth

Under local anesthesia, the teeth on each side of the gap are reshaped to receive crowns.

3. Impression and shade

A precise impression and shade selection are sent to the laboratory.

4. Temporary bridge

A temporary bridge protects the prepared teeth and fills the gap during fabrication.

5. Try-in and cementation

The bridge is checked for fit, contacts and bite, then permanently cemented.

6. Hygiene instruction

You learn how to clean under the pontic with a floss threader or an interdental brush.

Benefits

  • Fixed solution: no removable appliance
  • Restores chewing, speech and appearance
  • No surgery required
  • Faster than an implant (a few weeks rather than months)
  • Keeps the neighbouring teeth from shifting

After the treatment: advice

  • Clean under the bridge every day with a floss threader, superfloss or an interdental brush
  • Avoid very hard or sticky foods during the first days and with the temporary bridge
  • Some sensitivity of the supporting teeth is normal for a few days
  • See your hygienist every six months: the margins of the crowns are where decay can start
  • Call us if the bridge feels loose or if food keeps getting trapped underneath

Alternatives and options

A dental implant replaces the missing tooth without touching the neighbouring teeth and preserves the bone; it is often preferred when the adjacent teeth are intact and the bone is adequate. A removable partial denture is the most economical option and can replace several teeth at once. A bonded (Maryland) bridge is a minimally invasive choice for a single missing front tooth in some situations.

Frequently asked questions about dental bridge

Bridge or implant: which should I choose?

If the neighbouring teeth are healthy and there is enough bone, an implant avoids reshaping them and lasts longer. If those teeth already need crowns, or if surgery is not an option, a bridge is an excellent fixed solution. Your dentist gives you an estimate for both.

How long does a dental bridge last?

Generally 10 to 15 years, often more, depending on the health of the supporting teeth and your hygiene. Cleaning under the pontic daily is the key to longevity.

Is the bridge visible?

No. Zirconia and ceramic bridges are matched to the shade of your natural teeth and are practically indistinguishable, even on front teeth.

Is it painful?

No. The preparation is done under local anesthesia. Mild sensitivity of the prepared teeth for a few days is common and disappears.

Can a bridge replace several teeth?

Yes, usually up to three teeth in a row on natural abutments. For longer gaps, a bridge on implants or an implant-supported denture is more appropriate.

Is a bridge covered by insurance?

Most private plans cover part of the cost of bridges, often after a pre-determination. The CDCP covers certain bridges with pre-authorization. We handle the paperwork for you.
