01In brief

What happens at an orthodontic evaluation?

No referral needed · from age 7

An orthodontic evaluation usually takes less than an hour. The dentist examines your teeth, bite and jaws, takes the X-rays needed and, depending on the case, photos and impressions. The dentist then explains what they see, the possible options and their costs, in writing, before any treatment. At Go Dentiste, no referral is needed for an evaluation, in Valleyfield and in Vaudreuil-Dorion: 514-533-3368.

02What to know

The steps of the evaluation

No step commits you to starting treatment: the evaluation is there to understand the situation and help you decide.

  1. Your questions firstWhat bothers you (appearance, bite, discomfort, spacing), your expectations and your constraints: school, sports, schedule, budget.
  2. The examPosition of the teeth, contact between upper and lower teeth, available space, health of the teeth and gums, and the jaw joint.
  3. X-rays and impressionsA panoramic X-ray and, depending on the case, other images, photos and impressions to plan precisely.
  4. The plan and the costsThe possible options, estimated length, number of visits and cost of each, given to you in writing. You decide at your own pace.

What to bring

  • Your dental insurance card, if you have one
  • A list of your medications
  • Recent X-rays or records from past treatment, if you have them
  • For a child: their health insurance card
  • Your questions, written down ahead of time

Good to know: If the exam shows a cavity or a gum problem, it is treated first: teeth are not moved in a mouth that isn’t healthy.

06FAQ

Frequently asked questions: the orthodontic evaluation

Does the evaluation commit me to starting treatment?

No. It helps you understand the situation and learn your options. You receive the plan and costs in writing, then decide at your own pace.

How much does an orthodontic evaluation cost?

The cost depends on the exams and X-rays needed. Ask when you book: we tell you what will be done and billed.

Do I need to already be a Go Dentiste patient?

No. New patients are welcome in Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion, no referral needed.

Will I see an orthodontist?

No: the evaluation is done by a general dentist. If the dentist finds that your situation calls for an orthodontist, they explain why and refer you to a specialist.

Should I bring my old X-rays?

If you have recent ones, yes: ask your previous clinic for a copy. They can sometimes avoid retaking X-rays and help compare changes over time.
