Clear aligners in Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion

Clear aligners are a series of transparent, removable trays that gradually move the teeth into alignment. Each set is worn 20 to 22 hours a day for one to two weeks before moving on to the next. They straighten crowded, spaced or slightly rotated teeth discreetly, without brackets or wires.

Clear aligners: what you need to know

Clear aligners have made orthodontics accessible to adults who never wanted braces. The trays are nearly invisible, come out for meals and brushing, and the treatment is planned digitally so you can see the projected result before you start. For mild to moderate crowding, spacing or relapse after previous orthodontics, they are as effective as braces.

At Go Dentiste, the orthodontic assessment, the digital scan, the fitting of the aligners and all follow-up visits take place at our Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion clinics, with Tuesday evening and weekend appointments in Valleyfield. Our dentists identify the cases that aligners handle well and refer complex bite problems to an orthodontist.

What clear aligners can correct

  • Mild to moderate crowding of the front teeth
  • Gaps between the teeth
  • Teeth that have shifted after braces (relapse)
  • Slight rotations or tilting
  • Mild overbite or crossbite, depending on the case

How the treatment works, step by step

1. Orthodontic consultation

The dentist examines the teeth, the bite and the gums, takes photos and X-rays, and confirms that aligners are appropriate.

2. Digital or physical impression

A scan or impression of both arches captures the starting position of every tooth.

3. Virtual treatment plan

The movements are planned on software; you see a simulation of the final result and the number of aligners needed.

4. Attachments and first aligners

Small tooth-coloured attachments are bonded to some teeth to help guide the movements, and the first trays are fitted.

5. Follow-up visits

Every 6 to 10 weeks the dentist checks the progress and hands you the next sets of aligners.

6. Retention

At the end, a fixed retainer wire and/or a clear night retainer keep the teeth in their new position.

Benefits

  • Practically invisible
  • Removable for eating, brushing and flossing
  • No brackets or wires that irritate the cheeks
  • Fewer and shorter visits than with braces
  • Predictable, simulated result before starting

After the treatment: advice

  • Wear the aligners 20 to 22 hours a day; remove them only to eat and brush
  • Brush your teeth and rinse the aligners before putting them back in
  • Drink only water with the aligners in; hot drinks warp them and sugary drinks cause cavities
  • Use the chewies for a few minutes after inserting a new set to seat it fully
  • Wear your retainer as instructed after treatment: teeth move for life

Alternatives and options

Braces remain the most versatile option and are necessary for complex bite corrections, significant rotations or when compliance with removable trays is a concern. Ceramic braces offer a less visible fixed alternative. For very small cosmetic corrections, bonding or veneers can sometimes give the impression of straighter teeth without moving them.

Frequently asked questions about clear aligners

Are clear aligners really invisible?

Nearly. The trays are transparent and thin; most people will not notice them at conversation distance. The small tooth-coloured attachments are the most visible part and remain discreet.

How long does treatment take?

Six to eighteen months for most cases. Mild crowding or spacing can be corrected in under a year; the dentist gives you an estimate based on the digital plan.

Does it hurt?

You feel pressure for a day or two after each new set of aligners, which means the teeth are moving. It is milder than the discomfort of braces and rarely requires more than an over-the-counter pain reliever.

Can I eat with my aligners?

No. Remove them for meals and snacks, then brush before putting them back. Only water is allowed with the aligners in.

Are aligners suitable for teenagers?

Yes, for motivated teens whose permanent teeth have erupted. Some systems include compliance indicators. The dentist assesses maturity and cooperation at the consultation.

How much does aligner treatment cost?

The cost depends on the number of aligners and the complexity. You receive a written estimate after the digital plan, financing options are available, and many insurance plans include an orthodontic benefit.
